Welcome to New Melle

New Melle is a small community in the scenic and historic southwestern section of St. Charles County, Missouri. It was founded in 1839 by immigrants from Melle, Germany. By the turn of the century, the town had become an important "farm to market" trade center, with several general stores, a mill, a small hotel, two wagon makers, three blacksmiths shops, a public school, a creamery, a furniture shop, a shoe cobbler, a jeweler, a brick kiln, and a large park for picnics. As time continued, the social and economic events of the 1920s, 30s and 40s impacted New Melle as they did the rest of the nation.
For many decades, New Melle remained a small, rural community hardly noticed by those outside the region. Today, the community remains small, with strong historical ties and many unique amenities. However, the picturesque countryside and the growth potential are attracting the attention
of new home builders and foresighted investors. As we look to the future,
New Melle is faced with a new challenge - accommodating growth that is
good for the community while retaining a rural flavor and small town atmosphere.
